2018 Fiber Reinforced Bowling Ball Competition
FRC Bowling Ball Competition 2018
FORTA Corporation is pleased to have donated fibers to students participating in the FRC Bowling Ball Competition that will take place at the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Convention on Sunday, March 25, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
According to the ACI website, the objective of this competition is to “demonstrate the effect of fibers reinforcing concrete, to gain experience in forming and fabricating a fiber-reinforced concrete element, and to encourage creativity in engineering design and analysis”.
“All will enjoy seeing the students knock down pins with their concrete bowling balls, prior to loading their balls within an inch of failure. Successful student teams will learn about advanced casting processes to produce a round concrete ball, the working properties of fiber-reinforced concrete, and the art of picking up a 7-10 split, performing under extreme pressure, working as part of a team, and the benefits of fiber reinforcing.”
The FRC Bowling Ball Competition has two categories for prizes: Bowling Ball Design and Bowling Ball Analysis. Both categories require knowledge and experience about concrete, fiber reinforcement, material behavior, and bowling. There are projected to be up to 60 teams with over 300 students in attendance. This is one of the largest student concrete competitions within ACI.
FORTA Corporation has donated synthetic fiber reinforcement to students from hundreds of universities around the world for their competition ball reinforcement. We can’t wait to see who will take home the prizes this year!
