Project Description
The company constructed a 460,000 square foot warehouse in Fall 2013. Three weeks prior to placing the floor, discussion at a pre-construction meeting opened the door to using FORTA-FERRO® in the slab. Given the forklift traffic patterns in the loading dock area, the owners wanted to prevent cracking as well as to expand the control joints to 26 feet in a 6-inch floor. To begin, the experienced contractor addressed the owner’s expectations of wide joints with no cracks. He explained that per ACI-302 “Reinforcement (WWF, rebar) will not prevent cracking. If the reinforcement is properly sized and located, cracks that do occur should remain tightly closed.” However, the contractor described the most recent industry innovations that include the use of high dose, macro synthetic fibers as a key component in a system to extend joint spacing beyond ACI recommendations. This system was put into place and a 1-year follow-up indicated very favorable results.
Key Points:
- Superior Finish
- Durable
- Reduced Cracking
