Underwood Fruit & Warehouse Co. – Bingen, WA

Bingen, WA - 2018

Project Description

The Underwood Fruit and Warehouse Co. lost their packing operations building to a fire in late 2017 and needed a new multi-level facility. Originally the project was specified with light rebar in the slab-on-ground and wire mesh in the slab-on-metal-deck. FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers were recommended as an alternative to the traditional steel and was approved as a replacement for both. Eliminating the steel saved the contractor a lot of time-consuming steps that are involved when using traditional steel reinforcement like tying and placing rebar. Using FORTA-FERRO fibers also eliminated the safety concerns typically seen when using steel reinforcements. The fibers posed no issues in both applications regarding tailgating and pumping the concrete.
