Project Description
The Sun Trust Parking Deck, in Dunwoody, GA was originally specified for steel, but the contractor chose to replace wire mesh with fibers because it is an easier and faster construction method. FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers were chosen for this 6-inch slab-on-ground at a dosage of 3.0 lb/cu yd. This project used a small line pump to place the concrete mix for the pavement on the lower level of the parking structure. Since this was a tight spot to maneuver, this allowed them to place the concrete exactly where it’s needed, so it doesn’t have to be dragged. This prevented the concrete from segregating and kept the aggregate well distributed. Reinforcing the concrete with fiber, coupled with using the line pump, increased productivity, reduced costs, and resulted in a better-finished product.
