Speyside Bourbon Cooperage Inc.

Speyside Bourbon Cooperage Inc., located in Jackson, OH, needed to construct a concrete stave yard. The yards main purpose is to be used to store oak it is manufactured into bourbon barrels. The engineer had two design options to choose keeping in mind the goal to create the most durable overlay possible. The first option was pouring a 10” unreinforced overlay. The second option was to pour an 8” slab reinforced with FORTA-FERRO^®. After some consideration, the engineer chose to use a 8” overlay with FORTA-FERRO^® at a dosage of 7.5 lb / cu yd of concrete. Using FORTA-FERRO^® in the overlay offered better impact resistance and an overall tougher concrete compared to the unreinforced slab. The fiber mixed uniformly and revealed minimal surface fibers during finishing.
