Skagit Valley Farms – Burlington, WA

Burlington, WA - 2018

Project Description

Skagit Valley Farms were adding an addition to their existing facility for both production and warehousing. The general contractor utilized the FORTA engineering staff to create steel to fiber conversions and submit them for approval. In this total 2,100 cu yd project, both a 4.0 lb/cu yd and a 7.5 lb/cu yd dosage of FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fiber were used in two different slabs. Using a 4.0 lb/cu yd dosage allowed the contractor to reduce the spacing of the existing rebar, while using the 7.5 lb/ cu yd dosage of fiber enabled him to extend the joint spacing and eliminate the need for steel reinforcement altogether. In addition, using FORTA-FERRO fibers saved the contractor labor time when extending the control joints because no steel reinforcements needed tied or placed. Both advantages save money in the short and long term. The owner will see reduced maintenance costs when it comes to joint repair down the road.
