Project Description
Specified steel was replaced with fiber in the slab-on-metal-deck of the Shallowford Road Self Storage facility in Atlanta, GA. The general contractor in conjunction with the concrete finisher both
wanted to use fibers instead of wire mesh. FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers were used for this 1,500 yd project at a dosage of 4.0 lb/cu yd. By choosing to reinforce the concrete with fiber, a shorter construction time was achieved. Workers did not have to spend time placing and hoisting steel into place, shaving days and dollars off their production time. Since one of the leading tripping hazards on deck is mesh, using fiber eliminates this problem and reduces potential injuries and insurance claims for the contractor and all trades working on the project. Using FORTA-FERRO solved many of the problems contractors face in this type of application.
