Project Description
Roxbury Place is lower to middle income housing that was constructed in Roxbury, PA to rehabilitate this blighted neighborhood. Originally both slab-on ground and slab-on-metal-deck applications were specified for steel, but the owner and contractor chose to switch to fibers. They chose FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers to be used in this project totaling 80 cu yd with a fiber dosage of 3.0 lb/cu yd. The fiber reinforced concrete allowed them to save time and money on this project by forgoing traditional steel reinforcements that require additional workers and storage fees. Using fibers in the concrete slabs also aided in the ease of pumping and finishing. This was the first time the ready mixer, contractor, or architect had used FORTA-FERRO macro fibers and were, “very excited about the ease of use and finishability of the fiber.”
