Thái Bình, a city in the Red River Delta in northern Vietnam, was in need of a series of precast river embankment units for urban, rural, environmental, and natural disaster prevention in addition to a response to climate change in the area. The use of FORTA-FERRO® reinforced concrete instead of traditional steel reinforcement was chosen for its superior durability and its ability to decrease the erosion from the seawater.
A project specifier mentioned, “Using FORTA-FERRO® fiber reinforced concrete aided in increasing the resistance to seawater erosion. Using the fiber helped to significantly reduce the labor hours and construction work time.”
Even after two large storms in the area, the fiber reinforced embankment units stood strong.
The Ba Ria-Vung Tau City Drainage and Urban Development Company’s (BUSADCO) CEO, Hoang Duc Thao, was awarded the honorary Ho Chi Minh award for the project in recognition of cultural and/or scientific achievement and is considered one of the highest honors bestowed by the government of Vietnam.
