Project Description
The engineer for the Peachtree Orthopedic MRI project, in College Park, GA, opted to use FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers instead of conventional rebar. The project was originally specified to have a double mat of #4 rebar at 12” OCEW in a 12” thick slab. However, a FORTA-FERRO conversion was done and submitted as a value engineering option. The placement area for this concrete had very limited access which would have made rebar installation extremely difficult and costly. Utilizing fibers allowed for quick concrete placement by eliminating the time and labor necessary to install conventional rebar. The use of FORTA-FERRO offered superior crack control and allowed for safer concrete placement for workers without having to maneuver rebar into the placement area with tight access at the bottom of a hill and through the window.
