Oak Valley Dairy – Burley, ID

Burley, ID - 2018

Project Description

Project Description

The owner and contractor of Oak Valley Dairy wanted a longer lasting, highly durable concrete mix with minimal plastic shrinkage for the feed allies, rotary milk barn, and wall surfaces in their new dairy construction in Burley, ID. FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers were specified for a 14,400-cu yd job with a fiber dosage of 3.0 lb/cu yd to combat the problems of which they were most concerned. By using fibers and eliminating rebar the ready mix trucks could deliver the concrete direct to the finishers without the use of pump trucks, increasing production and maintaining a safe work site. In addition, commercial dairy projects have several potential areas that will increase concrete degradation by moisture, mechanical contact, and chemical contact, such as organic and lactic acid contact. By using FORTA-FERRO fibers, the concrete has increased durability and reduced cracks leading to less moisture and chemical intrusion.

Key Points:

  • Reduced Shrinkage Cracking
  • Increased Durability
  • Safer Work Environment
