Project Description
The Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena in High Point, NC consists of a 4,500-seat spectator basketball arena, a conference center seating 2,500 people, and a hotel with 30 to 40 rooms. FORTA partnered with Procon, Inc and Chandler Concrete to replace the specified wire mesh and rebar in the slabs on grade and composite metal decks. The #5 rebar at 18” in the 8” slab on ground and the wire mesh in the 5”, 6.5”, and 7.5” slab-on-decks were replaced with FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers at a dosage of 3.0 and 4.0 lb/cu yd. By converting steel reinforcements to FORTA-FERRO, owners were able to reduce Procon’s cost for reinforcing as well as their steel placing cost. This allowed them to save time and be more efficient while also creating a safer work environment. Using FORTA-FERRO fibers ensured reinforcement throughout the concrete.
