Project Description
FORTA-FERRO® was chosen as an alternative temperature/shrinkage reinforcement in the fall of 2011 for the Millennium Science Complex, located on a college campus, in State College, PA. A fiber dosage of 5.0 lbs. / cu. yd. was approved to replace the #6 rebar originally specified. Overall, almost 30,000 square feet of 10-inch thick slab-on-grade utilized the fiber reinforcement for the basement floor slab for this campus building. The three-dimensional fiber reinforcement offered a tremendous crack-reduction advantage over single-plane conventional matt-steel reinforcement. In addition to crack reduction, FORTA-FERRO® offered considerable material and labor cost savings for the project as well. Even at a relatively high dosage level, the fiber mixed quickly and uniformly in the normal mixing system while also maintaining a sleek and superior finish.
