Project Description
As the cost of steel reinforcement and labor continue to rise, three-dimensional fiber reinforcement is becoming a more frequent and popular method to control cracking in slab-on-grade construction projects. Due to their prior successful use of macro synthetic fibers, the contractor proposed the FORTA-FERRO® to project engineers as an alternative to the traditional one-plane steel reinforcement for the multi-purpose floor slabs at the new Grove City Middle School. For this 4 in. floor application, the 2-1/4” long FORTA-FERRO® was approved and used at a dosage of 3.5 lbs. / cu. yd. in over 900 cubic yards of concrete. This time-saving fiber reinforcement method helped the contractor maintain the compressed project schedule to allow the facility to open in time for the school semester.
