Georgia D.O.T. Bridge Deck

Ringgold, GA - October 2001

Project Description

The bridge, originally built in the 1950’s, had been resurfaced in 1997, but had already deteriorated to the point of necessary repair. The Georgia D.O.T. looked to FORTA-FERRO® as an easy-to-use and cost-effective method to add a high level of crack control and long-term durability. After scarifying 3-1/2″ of deteriorated concrete, a cement slurry was brushed on as a bonding agent. FORTA-FERRO® was added and mixed at a dosage of 4 lbs. / cu. yd., and then placed using a vibrating power screed. The FORTA-FERRO® fiber offered no difficulties to the bull-float and broom finish.

Update

The bridge deck was surveyed in November 2014 and most recently, May 2017, 16 years after the initial construction, and was found to still be performing well under heavy impacts and traffic loads. The bridge deck has maintained its durability and strength for the past 16 years with the help from FORTA-FERRO®.
