Project Description
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) specified fibers be used in a 3-inch concrete overlay on U.S. Route 441 and Roberson Mill Road. GDOT chose to use fiber reinforced concrete to resurface this road instead of asphalt because the current asphalt was rutting and shoving from the traffic starting and stopping at the intersection. A FORTA-FERRO reinforced concrete overlay gives them a tough durable surface that resists cracking and solves many common asphalt problems. For this 440-cu yd project, a fiber dosage of 3.0 lb/cu yd was used to reinforce the concrete. FORTA-FERRO fibers increase the durability of the roadway reducing cracking and increasing post crack residual strength if cracks do occur. A FORTA-FERRO concrete overlay will add years of maintenance free service life to this intersection, helping to save taxpayers money.
Key Points:
- Added Durability and Toughness
- Reduced Cracking
- Cost Effective
