Project Description

A large pharmaceutical company replaced specified steel with FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers in two slab-on-ground applications and a slab-on-deck in this new construction using 8,500 yd of concrete. The 8” slab was designed with a dosage of 4.5 lb/cu yd and the 5” slab with 3.0 lb/cu yd of FORTA-FERRO. The engineer decided to use a dosage of 4.0 lb/cu yd in the deck slab. The contractor chose FORTA-FERRO fibers in order to save time they lost with the wet spring weather. They were also able to save money on material, the placing of rebar, and by eliminating a crane for steel. Before beginning this project, one mock slab was poured with FORTA-FERRO and one with another fiber brand. The slab testing gave the company a better overall project since the contractor was more comfortable with FORTA-FERRO because of the test results and FORTA had done all the original designs upfront.
