Project Description
The Fiat/Chrysler facility encompasses 5.4 million square feet (500,700 sq m) to be used in a wide variety of applications, including assembly, painting, bodywork, R & D center, training facility, a test track, and a supplier complex of 12 buildings. As a way to reduce reinforcement-related project time as well as offer economic advantages compared to conventional temperature-steel wire mesh or steel fibers, Engineer Bina specified several dosages of the FORTA-FERRO® in various slab areas, which varied in thickness from 6 to 10 in. (15 to 25 cm). Even at the relatively high fiber dosage, the FORTA-FERRO® mixed and distributed evenly throughout the concrete, and provided the owner with a fiber-free surface finish. Overall, a total of 603,000 lbs. (274,300 kg.) of fiber have been used within the new Fiat complex, and was to have been officially completed in 2015.
