Project Description
A large medical center in Jefferson, LA expanded their cancer center and chose to replace specified steel with FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers. In the six story elevated decks, a fiber dosage of 4.0 lb/cu yd was used totaling 2,070 cu yd. By using fiber to reinforce the concrete, the durability of the concrete was increased, and the fiber will aid in crack reduction in the future. Choosing fiber over steel reduced time and labor costs by eliminating costly crane time used for lifting steel reinforcements and removing potential safety hazards of installing and working around steel reinforcement. This project demonstrates a superior, more cost-effective alternative to steel reinforcement.
