Project Description
Blue Bird Inc. was established in 1913 and is the oldest cooperative in Central Washington. Due to their new growth, Blue Bird needed a new building to store heavy pear bins. Owners chose to use FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fiber to reinforce the concrete in the slabs that will be supporting all these bins. The total project size is 4,800 cu yds and contractors used a fiber dosage 4.0 lb/cu yd. Since there would be heavy forklift use, each one totaling 15,000 lb with driver fuel and maximum bin capacity, they needed reinforcement that could support this high-volume traffic. Having used FORTA-FERRO on past projects, the contractor realized the advantages of using the fibers in lieu of rebar and wire mesh. In addition to saving time and money from labor and storage fees, they do not have to worry if the steel is properly positioned. They know they are getting a concrete slab that has reinforcement throughout.
