Ames Hangar 1006

Wilmington, OH - July 2013

Project Description

The pavement portion of the Joint Use Maintenance and Paint Hangar 1006 required loading capacity for aircraft as large as a Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 777-300ER. The project was originally specified with 2 layers of #4 rebar, 18” o.c. in this 12” thick slab. Concrete contractor, TWC Concrete Services, LLC of Cincinnati, OH, submitted FORTA-FERRO®  to replace the steel in this 88,000 sq. ft. project. A dosage rate of 5.0 lbs. / cu. yd. was required to replace the steel with joint spacing at 15 ft. Over 20,000 lbs. of FORTA-FERRO® were utilized to increase the fatigue resistance and flexural strength of the slab under the heavy point loads of the large and extremely heavy aircrafts.
