CTL Packaging

Gastonia, NC - August 2012

Project Description

Together, project specifiers worked closely with the FORTA® technical department and independent floor design consultant EGT International Engineering to prepare a floor design and fiber dosage to meet the required manufacturing loading. The result was a 7″ concrete slab reinforced with 9.0 lbs. / cu. yd. of FORTA-FERRO® on a 4″ compacted gravel base, jointed in 23′ x 23′ panels. Eliminating conventional steel reinforcement allowed the concrete to be tailgated rather than pumped into place, further streamlining the construction process. Even at the relatively high fiber dosage, no difficulties were encountered during the placement, laser-screed, or machine-trowel pan finishing processes, resulting in a superior fiber free hard-trowel finish. In total, over 30,000 pounds of FORTA-FERRO® were used to cost-effectively reinforce 3,400 cubic yards of concrete for the CTL floor, scheduled to open for production in early 2013.
