Project Description
After investing over $7 million for renovations at Thorncreek Golf course in Thornton, CO, it was still left with a 92,000 sq ft asphalt parking lot that had been neglected for years. Budgets and time frame for construction were both limited, so the engineers on the project demonstrated that a concrete overlay, reinforced with fiber, would cost less while providing significant savings over a 30-year service life. They chose FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fiber to reinforce the concrete at a fiber dosage of 4.0 lb/cu yd. The speed of the project was a major factor so eliminating steel reinforcement helped in this area. In addition, the city also expects to save significantly over the years, due to reduced maintenance costs the fiber allows. The main drive, curb, gutter, and sidewalk were also overlaid, creating a beautiful approach to the clubhouse with no increase in cost. The resulting product not only completed the renovation project on time and on budget, but it has given staff a new rehabilitation method to utilize in the future.
